Penstock Lagoon
Fly fishing only trout water
On the Central Plateau, 60 minutes from Cressy, Penstock Lagoon is a fly fishing only trout water.
The population of good sized brown and rainbow trout (average 1 - 2kg) is supplemented and managed by the IFS with adult Great Lake brown trout. Penstock Lagoon is renowned for its trout having a good rate of growth. A look through the weed in the shallow areas will show a highly abundant food supply.
A shallow, weedy water, Penstock Lagoon features some of the earliest mayfly hatches of the season and good terrestrial falls in the summer and autumn months.
During clear and calm conditions tiny mayflies provide some exceptional still water dry fly fishing. Evening rises to caddis and mudeyes can be quite entertaining. Damselfly feature heavily in the trout's diet from the onset of summer.
Surrounded by forest, with a variety of grassy and rocky shorelines and scattered marsh areas, Penstock Lagoon offers excellent shore and boat based fly fishing opportunities.
